Introduction
Hey there! Welcome to the Dandelion House, my 1/5th acre little slice of paradise and the beating heart behind Dandelions Daydreams. It’s more than just a house; it’s my home, workshop, and a project in progress. Im really excited to share the story of this place and the dreams that are slowly taking root here!
A Dream of Sustainability
One of my dreams is to grow and preserve 70% of the produce needs for not just myself but hopefully 3-5 other people. It’s a big goal, but every day is a step closer. I’ve got raised garden beds, a small patch I’m calling a “desert food forest”, and a tiny orchard in the making. Its been a whole lot of trial and error, but every bit has been worth it and every year is a little better.
Nature’s Gifts and Happy Chickens
I love using the wild herbs and plants that pop up around here. They’re not just ‘weeds’ to me – they’re ingredients for salves, treats for my chickens, and part of my land’s bounty. Speaking of chickens, they are so much smarter than most people think! The have a large dedicated space in the back that they share with the beehives and compost piles.
Pottery – My Artistic Escape
I do the majority of my pottery making on site. I like to keep my wheel outside so I can hear the birds and feel the sun while I throw. Plus my cat likes to watch me and chase the bits of clay that fly off while im trimming. Throwing outside isn’t just for fun though! It also keeps dust down and allows me to dump my clay water in the garden beds. Clay dust is hard on drains and lungs alike!
Why Dandelions?
You might be wondering why I chose to center my brand around dandelions of all things. Well its not just because they look pretty in the wind! While most people see them as a weed and a nuisance Dandelions are not only very hardy and prolific but they have many uses and are cherished by those that understand them.
They have deep roots that dive farther down into the soil than most plants of their size breaking it up and making way for others while gathering minerals unaccessable to most, Not only that but they are edible and good for you! Fighting inflammation and providing a plethora of nutrients.
Sometimes I feel like a dandelion. Being disabled and pursuing art as a living can make a lot of people write you off or look down on you, But most are pleasantly surprised when they take the time to see what I can do.
